School is back in session and although it doesn’t feel like it, the fall weather is right around the corner. I love autumn in Central New York and everything it brings; apple picking, gorgeous leaves, and of course, sweater weather! I also love getting out in my yard and preparing my home as the seasons change. Just like spring cleaning, fall preparation in one’s home brings about the new season with a peaceful satisfaction. Here is a checklist of items my Husband and I do every fall to maintain our home.

Yard

  • Clean and prep garden beds. This is the time to weed, get rid of the dead and clear out for the new. This small chore really can make a huge difference when it comes to curb appeal.

  • Plant any spring bulbs. By the time Spring comes around in CNY we are ready for it! Help your neighbors out and give them a little gift of early colorful, blooming bulbs to help get rid of the winter grays.

Garage

  • Sweep Out Garage

  • Organize Garden Tools. You won’t be needing these for a while! Take the time to put them away in an organized fashion to help your garage stay neat and tidy all winter long!

Deck/Porch

  • Hose Down the Deck and Porch

  • Change Decor. I love to add a little seasonal decor to my front porch. I stick with the traditional elements: mums, pumpkins, and lanterns.

  • Store Outdoor Furniture

House Exterior

  • Clean Windows. I know this is not everyone’s favorite task, but it’s worth the time or money each day you get more sunlight through them! Don’t want to do it yourself, give me a call and I can get you in touch with one of my people: 315-682-195

  • Clean Out Gutters

  • Examine Roof for Debris

House Interior

  • Check Your Chimney! It’s time for fires - make sure you’re ready and your loved ones are safe by having someone come and sweep your chimney.

  • Check Your Furnace, Change Filters. See a problem? Not sure how? Call me: 315-682-1950

  • Clean Your Vents

Have you checked these items off your list? Now is the time to check off your fall prep checklists before winter is here and it’s too late!
